Custom Vintage Antique 1920's (early to mid) Harwood Artist Mandolin + Hardcase

Vintage Antique 1920's (early to mid) Harwood Artist Mandolin + Hardcase in fully functional good condition. This nearly 100 year old quality American made instrument is mostly original, has a fresh set of light 11-34 gauge Martin mandolin strings, is highly collectible, and plays and sounds good.

Harwood was a brand name of the JW Jenkins music instrument company of Kansas City. This mandolin was manufactured under contract for JW Jenkins Company by Regal Music Instrument Company of Chicago. This is a very fancy mandolin constructed of a fancy double bound solid mahogany neck, fretboard with fancy inlays, double bound solid spruce top, and rosewood back and sides with ornate double binding. The tailpiece is nickel plated brass in good condition minus some handling wear on the nickel plating and the tuning machines are the original high quality pancake style tuners with nickel plated brass coverplate all of which have properly lubricated and serviced. The original bridge was missing but a modern bone capped ebony bridge has been precision fitted. Nut is the original bone and in good condition. Sadly, the headstock decal has worn away but, the original acetate pickguard with abalone inlays is nearly all there and in great condition for it's extreme antiquity and fragility.

This high quality vintage antique mandolin does show moderate handling wear, evidence of dehydration in it's lifetime, repaired back seam (dehydration related), a repaired and very hard to see headstock hairline crack at the 1st G string tuning machine, and minor playing wear on frets and board but frets have been re-crowned, fretboard polished up, and instrument properly set up. The gorgeous selection of vintage tonewoods combined with high level of fit and finish make for a good sounding, beautiful heirloom instrument that's fun to play and hard to put down. Hardcase is modern and in good condition.
