Product Description
Very rare 1938 Hohner black "Organetta IV" accordion (with curved keyboard).
I doubt you'll ever see one like this again. Everyone who hears it or plays it comments on the very high quality of the bellows and the sound, and of the playability. It will easily hold its own in a performing group of any genre.
I have been in personal written contact with the Hohner Service Department in Trossingen, who were unable to tell me how many examples of this model [in either black or mother of pearl celluloid] were made, because "there is no overview of the number of individual models built." [I understand that Hohner's serial numbers were sequential over all models with no separate groupings by model.] I have heard estimates from 600 to 2000, but I'll take Hohner's word for it.
The accordion weighs a light 20 pounds, making it ideal for the performing professional -- standing or strolling.
Condition: Excellent. Always well cared for [my father has owned this accordion for over 30 years]. Professionally fully refurbished in 2015, and professionally inspected with minor servicing in 2016. The Hohner "Prospectus of 1938," describes it as "a very good value and wonderful accordion, to the highest requirements." There are two very small pieces of ivory trim missing, but you'll have to look hard to see that.
Case: Original case, specially shaped for this accordion, shows some wear after almost 80 years, but is fully useable.
