Custom Kay K73 Mandolin ca. 1952 Cherry Sunburst Kamico Oldkraftsman Orpheum Paramount Silvertone Harmony

This mandolin appears to be built by Kay some time around 1952.

Based on its construction with a solid spruce top (with a small maple ply beneath each f hole), maple back and sides, A-style body, f holes and cherry sunburst finish. It appears to be the Kay K73 mandolin model. K73 models were built from 1939-1952.

It has the original Kluson no line tuners that were in use from 1952-1953. The tuner buttons have been replaced as the old buttons dried up and fracked off.

The mandolin has no headstock logo, internal stamp or markings to exactly identify what brand or model it is. They had been branded as Kay, Kamico, Old Kraftsman, Orpheum, Paramount, Silvertone and sometimes even Harmony.

It has had a neck reset and been professionally set up. There are no issues and it's all ready to play.

There is some chipping around the neck joint from when the neck reset was done but the neck is tight to the body and there is no separation. There is also plenty of chips, dings and scratches as it is a very old instrument. Everything is original except for the tuner buttons.

Comes with the original Geib chipboard case.
