The Sullivan family and their retail business- First Quality Music- is well known throughout the industry for their decades-long reputation of making the finest Mastertone banjo parts available anywhere. In fact Sullivan is the actual parts manufacturer of the Gibson Mastertone banjos for the last 35+ years of Gibson production. If you own a Gibson from this time period you already know of Sullivan's manufacturing quality, even if you didn't know they've been behind the scenes for so many decades. You will also already know of the tone and feel of a VIntage 35 banjo neck as they remain true to their heritage. Even though Gibson is not selling banjos today, the Sullivans have filled the need and turned their expertise into making their own branded banjos of the highest quality. These banjos are accurate duplicates of the prewar Gibson banjos with only minor branding changes and the use of their own V-35 tone ring that was two years in development.. This means the sound you've loved for 75 years is still available in a new banjo. These are the true-blooded bluegrass banjos. The Gibson banjos were equipped with different tone rings over the years, which were made by outside manufacturers. Sullivan's V35 tone ring is the result of metallurgic analysis and dimensional accuracy based on their own prewar Gibson. But no tone ring is going to sound its best without a quality rim to sit on. Their second achievement is Sullivan's old-growth forest, factory floor hard rock maple rim. These exquisite rims are made from rock maple that was cut about 100 years ago. Reclaimed from America's industrial age, they were originally milled for factory floors- and these boards are estimated to have been swaying in the breeze 200 years ago! This is today the only way to obtain the genuine old cut wood. Sullivan has developed production methods that re-dedicates this lumber solely for banjos, and are made into the finest banjo rims possible. The Vintage 35 banjo is the ONLY banjo made that employs the deadly combination of the V-35 tone ring and the factory floor rims. Even their own Festival models do not have it.
