Building on the foundation of a rare wide neck Yamaha BB50000A, the old hardware and tired guts have been swapped out with an eclectic combination that well . . . just works. The tone and appearance are so much better and give this bass a mojo it didn’t quite have before the upgrades. This is no lipstick treatment here. This is a result of trying different components to end up with this winning combination:

Now let’s address the headstock cuz that ain’t slouching either! The goal was to buy enough Palemoon Ebony to make a new pickguard – yes the pickguard is wood – and pickup covers. However, after installing the Hipshot ultralights and seeing the holes that were left exposed, the decision was to cover the back of the headstock with the remaining wood.

Here we go in to a moment of pure genius that would make MacGyver envious.

There wasn't enough Palemoon Ebony to cover the entire headstock so the tech said he could make it work by splicing in a piece of dark Rosewood in the middle....brilliant! After beveling the new wood around the headstock, he didn't like some of the marks it left behind so he put the black edge paint around the headstock culminating in a painted volute to dress it up for its grand redesign finale!

The wide neck rarity alone makes this worth every penny, but top that with all the upgrades to bring this bass up to 2017 standards - well it's almost priceless!
