Custom Vintage Shakuhachi 1950's

Vintage shakuhachi made in Japan in the 1970's. This instrument is suitable for play in traditional Japanese ensemble with koto and shamisen.

The flute is made from madake bamboo and is in great condition with minor signs of wear. The bore is lightly coated with urushi lacquer and the mouthpiece has a bone inlay. Originally a two piece flute, I sealed the joint so now it is a 'one piece'. 

This instrument has full open sound with great volume and responds well to strong blowing style. Plays well into the first two or three notes of the third octave. I recommend this flute for the serious beginner or the advanced amateur. The player who likes a 'strong presence' musically speaking will love this instrument.
