According to 'The Blue Book', Franconia branded guitars were produced in Japan during the early 1980's, for import into Britain, I've not been able to find out who the distributor was but they were branded exclusively for UK sale.

So, we have a 34 inch scale vintage Jazz Bass guitar of traditional form in a deep vintage sunburst finish, maple neck with black block markers, twin beefy singly coil pickups, each with separate blendable volume controls and a master tone.

Cosmetically it's in pretty fair order, there are the inevitable minor dings and knocks that one might expect in a 30 year old guitar the only reportable issues being a sizeable are of lacquer missing adjacent the rear strap button, some distortion to the chromed control plate at one tip and a mysterious cluster of four small filled holes to the back again near the rear strap button. The previous owner operator has clearly tried quite a few different positions for the thumbrest, as beneath there are several extra holes. Though thankfully, they are all covered by the rest itself when installed in its factory position. Bridge cover is certainly later, and there is a a couple of small filled holes either side just visible from a previous versions, and again several hidden holes beneath.

From a functional point of view, everything works as it should, the frets are uniformly pretty flat topped and low, but there's no grooving or any other nastiness, so it plays well with a sensible action. The truss rod is functional and there's adjustment left in the brass bridge saddles if required. Tone is strong and strident but flexible with everything from quite biting to a very smooth tone available.
