DESCRIPTION - This listing is for a 1970's ELGER Fender-styled Electric Bass Guitar w/ Carrying Case.
Finish Color: Sunburst Guitar Weight: 9 lbs. Nut Width: 1.5" Scale Length: 34" General Neck Shape: Classic C Shape Pickup Configuration: 2 Double Coil Built in Japan by Hoshino Gakki during the "Lawsuit Era"Who or What are ELGER Guitars and Basses? Why do they look so familiar? In the 1970s, there was a overall drop in the quality of the instruments produced by most major American guitar manufacturers. This lead to the demand for lower-priced, similar designed guitars from Asia, which (for the most part) used better parts and craftsmanship. Harry Rosenbloom, the founder of ELGER Guitars, became the first American to import these Japanese-made Fender/Gibson styled guitars and basses. ELGER imported them from the Hoshino Gakki company (known for producing guitars under the brand name IBANEZ). In 1971 Hoshino bought ELGER, which became Hoshino USA. Eventually, a lawsuit between Gibson and Ibanez/ELGER severely reduced the production of these low-cost, high-quality guitars. These Japanese guitars, which were built nearly identical to their American counterparts prior to the lawsuit ruling, are commonly referred to as "Lawsuit Era Guitars and Basses".ACCESSORIES - This item includes a carrying case; it comes only as seen in photos, does not include any other accessories.
PHYSICAL CONDITION - Good. There are many normal signs of wear in the finish, including some dings, scuffs and discoloration around the body and the headstock; there is also a small drill hole on either side of the bridge. The front and back of the neck are in good condition. The tuners are in good shape, though there is some surface oxidation; the frets are in good condition; the bridge, strap pegs and instrument jack are in good condition, though there is some oxidation forming on the surface. Overall, the structural integrity is solid.
Guitar Case Condition - Fair. Basic Chipboard; though it has been used extensively, it is still functional.WORKING CONDITION - Fair: The electronics have no output. The neck is bowed, causing the open strings to buzz against the fretboard, and requires a setup and neck adjustment to restore playability.
TOTAL PRE-SHIP WEIGHT - 13.15 lbs.
TOTAL PRE-SHIP DIMS - 48" x 15" x 3.5"
