Travis Bean TB 2000 Bass #94

Manufactured from 1974 to 1979, Travis Bean pioneered a neck to bridge, through-body machined aluminum design with his short-lived line of electric guitars and basses. The body (koa wood in many cases, including this one) is simply fitted onto the neck. This unique construction results in a tone known for strong, percussive presence and unparallelled sustain.

Approximately 1020 of these instruments were manufactured in total. This one most likely came out of the Travis Bean shop in 1975. Like many of the Travis Bean bases, this bass sustained some cracking in the body, which was professionally repaired. This happened before I bought the instrument from Bill Kaman at least 15 years ago. I am under the impression that the repair was done at the Ovation factory, which Bill ran at the time. Fortunately the solid aluminium neck-to-bridge construction renders this kind of damage simply cosmetic. That said, you need to examine the instrument pretty closely to notice it, thanks to the professional quality of the work. I've tried to highlight this issue in the photos for full disclosure and clarity.

Local Pickup is available in Los Angeles. Otherwise instrument will be shipped in an old instrument case. The case is sturdy and will be packaged securely for shipping, but is pretty beat-up as cases go, so you may want something nicer if you plan on taking this instrument out to gigs regularly.
