Some folks might be asking themselves, "What's a Canjo?" A Canjo is a simple, traditional, American instrument that is fretted diatonically which means that all of the sharp and flat notes (the in-between notes) are left out. For example, imagine picking out a tune on a piano that only has the white keys. This set-up makes it very easy to learn how to play and almost impossible to hit a "wrong" note. So this is a great instrument for first-time players be they 8 or 80.

I built my Canjo using a re-purposed tin box from a Toy Train Set. How cool is that? So when you order my Canjo, you will get the train set that came in the box also. To my ears, Can-Jos made with ordinary tin cans often have a rather harsh metallic sound. However, my "Train-Jo" puts out a nice full tone which sounds like a cross between a guitar and a banjo. (Check out the YouTube video). 

Canjos are typically tuned to a high C or D, however the tuning is entirely up to you. Its great fun to play on your own or pickin' along with some friends. The Train-Jo is loud enough to be heard but not too loud, so that if the kids get a hold of it-- they can play on it all day long, and it won't drive their parents crazy.
