Cigar Box Guitar

This is a handcrafted instrument built by me at Schmied Guitars. This is a 4 string short scale Cigar Box Guitar, it is tuned to Open G, great for all genres of music. It can be tuned to standard tuning or open D based on your preference.

It plays very nice, the fret board is very comfortable, has low action (see penny picture, that is the action on the 12th fret) makes it easy to play. The guitar can be amplified, it has a magnetic pickup with tone and volume controls, you can plug it into a guitar amp with a standard guitar cable.

It would make a great gift for music, guitar or cigar aficionados. Nice instrument and a sure piece for conversation.

Guitar details:

Body: I used a "Rebirth Cigar" cigar box, the box size is 14 x 7 x 1 3/4  deep. It has a beautiful tone, either acoustic or amplified.
Neck and fingerboard: The neck is made from mahogany wood and the fingerboard is maple. It has two-tones (dark and light) cedar inlaid dot markers, and it has cedar strips laminated on the head stock
Strings: I used electric medium gauge strings (w36, w24, p17, p11). You can leave these ones on, or try your own combination and tuning.
Bridge: telecaster style bridge with individual strings adjustment.
Tuning: Open G (DGbd), this is the "banjo-like" tuning
Nut: I used zero frets and a Corian nut guide for the strings (see pics)Scale: I used a 22 ½ inches scale (short scale) from nut to bridge
Frets: It has 17 frets, no buzzing, and excellent playability. the action is low enough to play finger-style up and down the neck. It can also be played with a slide (see my bottleneck slides).
