ABOUT THE INSTRUMENT:
THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT AND SIGNIFICANT COLLECTIBLE GUITAR WITH A SOLID STORY.
Every guitar player loves an ORIGINAL MADE IN SWEDEN HAGSTROM GUITAR. They all have the “fastest neck in the world”.
And all collectors love this EXTREMELY RARE “PROTO BASS” made in Japan in 1982.
THIS GUITAR HAS A STORY.
AN EXTRAORDINARY STORY.
There are several excellent websites that describe the full history of the creation of this bass. Have a look at:
The quick history is that in 1982/83 HAGSTROM, was struggling like many other excellent independent guitar makers. In an attempt to help advance the product name by introducing a more “stylish” and “current” guitar model, ARC, the HAGSTROM Distributor in Canada, “was behind” the creation and development of the new MIJ (Made In Japan) “Ultra Swede” model.
Unfortunately for ARC, Karl Erik Hagstrom (Mr. Hagstrom) “put a stop on the production of the new Ultra Swede” because he said that the family business “could not stand behind” the new MIJ guitar and chose to close the Hagstrom business. This was the end of the new beginning for this historic Swedish brand of guitars.
These Twelve (12) prototypes were shipped to ARC in Canada where they remained in boxes until this distributor also closed.
THIS IS ONE OF THOSE ORIGINAL
TWELVE PROTOTYPES!
More detail is found on the HAGSTROM pages as to the demise of the company HAGSTROM.
The original owner of this (and the other one in My Collection) was simply in the right place at the best time. He was walking down the street and stopped to see what was for sale at the auction of the items from ARC. These amazing treasures were purchased immediately.
Due to its rarity, we had our good friend, the famous and highly respected guitar builder, Terry McInturff, checked out this bass for us and did a complete setup on it. Terry loves this bass. He was amazed at the “thunderous” tone it produced (the humbuckers are loud, very loud) and how well it plays. He was also extremely impressed with the materials used to make the guitar. The fretboard (fingerboard) is made of an extremely HIGH GRADE EBONY.
It seems the Japanese firm took the “world’s fastest neck” and made it the “universe’s fastest playing neck. Below are the specifications for this bass taken from the Hagstrom Pages. Thanks to the folks who maintain these pages. They do an amazing job.

The finish on this guitar is a STUNNING PEARL WHITE.
It comes with hardshell case but we cannot guarantee that it is original. It appears to be. It is not a Hagstrom “gray fur” case as shown in the pictures on the Hagstrom pages but as best we can determine; the Japanese maker did not use the original Hagstrom case for these nor duplicate a Hagstrom case but rather came up with an original “Hagstrom Like” case to fit the new modern personality of the guitar.
CONDITION.
Guitar is in VERY GOOD COSMETIC CONDITION and in Excellent operating condition. There are finish blemishes, small dents, dings, scratches etc. coming from “curious handling”. Look at photos to see more of these finish marks, especially on the headstock front, on the lower bout sides (edges) and on the corners. Also there is an area of discoloration on the back of the body toward the bottom which only shows up when the guitar is shifted around to reflect lighting in different ways.
TRY IT OUT POLICY.
Understanding the normal hesitation of buying a guitar without first playing it, I want to make sure these guitars make you happy. To accomplish that, I want you to try them for 72 hours (three days). Play them, hold them, walk around with them on your back, sleep with then-whatever it takes for you to make sure these are the ones for you. During that time, you can return them for a full refund of your payment price (but of course they need to be treated well while you have them, as I expect you will) less shipping cost and you must pay the cost to ship it back to us.
If one arrives damaged, please let me know immediately by email. Be sure to hold onto all packing material and the box. I will contact the shipper for an inspection. Remember that this can take up to a couple of weeks but I will rush it along.
Minor problems. If there is a problem with one of the guitars when it arrives, e.g., loose wires etc. then I will work with you to get it repaired by someone in your area.
