Product Description
We’ve always been fans of Breedlove mandolins, especially their American-made solid wood models. Over the past few years, they’ve phased out U.S. mandolin production in favor of their excellent Crossover line (all-solid wood, great value). We still have a few older Oregon-made Breedloves in stock—the last available.
Part of the Breedlove Premier series, the Olympic OO features a solid Sitka Spruce top, and Western Big Leaf Maple for the back, sides, and neck The entire instrument is finished in a Red toner full-gloss finish with black binding on the body top, back and neck to accentuate the shape of the teardrop-shaped body.
Like all Breedlove mandolins, the Olympic OO features a radiused fingerboard for greater comfort and easier playing (especially for guitarists who double on mandolin). It has a detailed Mosaic pin inlay and oversize frets. Gold hardware is standard.
The OO model offers excellent projection, but for performances that call for additional volume, the Olympic is equipped with the K&K Twin Internal electronics system.
Why We Like Breedlove Mandolins
We realize traditionalists like their mandolins a certain way, and that Breedlove’s designs are a bit to the left of the traditional models—so they’re not for everyone (forgive us, Mr. Monroe). But we like different. And we like what Breedlove mandolins offer in terms of tone, finishes, design and value. They don’t cost a year’s salary and they don’t look like everyone else’s mandolins. We’re good with that. Those boys in Oregon might be on to something.
