Custom Collings MF5 Deluxe, Varnish, Excellent!

As you can imagine, in a shop like ours with SO much good stuff, we talk to lots of folks who can have pretty much anything they want.  When the original purchaser (now the seller /consignor) of this instrument called a little over a year ago he mentioned that he was a “guitar player interested in dipping his toes into the mandolin world”. While that might normally encourage a salesman to start describing the best value in an entry level or intermediate mandolin, that was not the case here. Since I knew this man from several previous (guitar) purchases I inquired: OK, let’s talk mandolins. What do you have in mind? His answer was direct: “Well, what’s the BEST thing you have in the shop right now?” I took a quick mental inventory of the then current mandolin room and said “Easily, this one particular Collings MF-5 Deluxe V is The Top Banana right now.”  “It’s $13,000”. He said: “I’ll take it”.

A year later, his “flirtation with the world of mandolin” (his words) has solidified his opinion that he wants to focus on guitar. So what does that mean to YOU? It means that you have a rare chance to buy a gently-used like-new Collings MF5 Deluxe V for a “used” price. Lucky you!

Few and far between, the top of the line Collings mandolin – the MF5 Deluxe V – beautiful as always. The classic MF5, privileged to receive the finest available woods, dolled up with additional purfling and engraved pearl inlay, with varnish finish, pickguard, Waverly tuners and FANCY engraved tailpiece. It has the standard 1 and 1/8″ nut width.  Not a lot needs to be said. It is consistently among the finest mandolins made today, at virtually half the price of what one might pay for similar handcrafted quality.
