Product Description
Its maple back & sides, complemented by a beautiful spruce top, produce the well-balanced and striking tone deserving of its appearance. The Sage is a wonderful option for those who desire the volume and roundness that flat (Celtic Style) instruments offer, with the deep tone the octave lower than the mandolin tuning produces.
Octave mandolins are tuned exactly one octave below the regular mandolin, “GDAE,” as they say in Australia, providing a strong midrange, and a great deal of authority and stentorian self-assurance. It also sustains like our memory of the town of Willoughby, with the gazebo and the ladies with the parasols. One difference is that this instrument’s body -- top and back -- is crème (ivoroid) bound. It features a solid Sitka spruce flat top stained to a lovely honey hue, having two-piece bookmatched nicely figured solid maple back and maple sides. It has a 23-1/2" scale length; a mahogany back of neck affixed to an unbound black ebony fingerboard above which there is a black ebony peghead veneer. Players may rejoice in that it has ebony bridge with removable saddles and a simple right-angle tailpiece that proffers a raised “W” at center of the top section and whose material looks like pewter. Its tuners are engraved-plate precision machines with open gears and small pearloid buttons. This extremely fine sounding, but highly affordable American-made octave mandolin is housed in a plush lined, form-fitting hard shell case.
