When Sir Paul McCartney purchased a 500/1 Violin Bass in 1961 to use with The Beatles, Hofner soon became a household name amongst musicians worldwide. In 1963 Hofner gave a new and improved model to Paul. This '64 reissue has the same specifications as Paul's '63 except for the newly added neck binding. The vintage violin shape, the fast-playing 3-piece neck, the rosewood fingerboard, Hofner Staple humbucker pickups, bridge and neck pickup placement, the horizontal script logo, and the same Hofner pearl A2-B control panel with gold top potentiometer control knobs are all there. The select flame maple and spruce provide plenty of natural acoustic resonance, and the 3-piece flame maple and beech neck sports a period-accurate slim carve for fast playing action. The Hofner Staple humbuckers deliver classic warm, woody, and almost acoustic-style tone, while the traditional 500/1 style tone controls let you dial the perfect sound for any tune.
