1920 Ludwig Capitol Special 4-String Banjo

This banjo is in good condition, exhibiting signs of age and use. I have tried to show pictures of all areas where the finish is compromised as well as possible.

It has abalone fretboard inlays and ivory butterbean tuners. The chrome hardware shows no signs of rust, just a normal patina. Please take note of the inlay that runs the length of the neck, to be repeated all around the body. Also notable is the detailed fleur-de-lis pattern on the headstock and also in the chrome surrounding the rim of the head. This is a beautifully adorned instrument.

There is patina crackle in the finish on the back. It is missing one string, but needs to be re-strung anyway. The neck is in good shape with no wear or missing finish on the back of the neck. There is one small piece of the nut that is missing, but this instrument comes with a replacement nut.

This instrument has lived it's entire life in Sacramento, CA. It has verbal provenance that ties it to the Assistant Chief of Police for Sacramento during the prohibition era. Please contact me if you want verbal provenance and I can provide you the number to call.

It comes with some case candy; tools, erasers to clean the head, string sleeves, and two documents tied to a Sacramento banjo club on Auburn Blvd., and a chord chart issued by a long forgotten Sacramento music store.

The case has moderate wear but functions perfectly. It has three hasps and the main hasp is missing the flap and the key.

Overall this is a quality American-made instrument that is collectible.
Ideally it would be well placed with a new owner in the Sacramento area.
