Custom Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4 H Black Cherry Burst w/ Matching Headstock

After Leo Fender sold Fender Guitars to CBS in 1965, he and several of the people who had worked with him continued designing guitars, basses and amps, resulting in the formation of Music Man. One of their earliest creations was the Sting Ray bass, the first production-model bass with active electronics.

This Black Cherry Burst Sting Ray is in fine condition, with matching headstock and very few dings or marks, and just a little tarnish on the pole pieces. The good news is that Sting Rays—in addition to sounding great—are durable basses that hold up forever. A Music Man hardshell case is included.

Why We Like Music Man
Leo Fender’s first post-Fender brand, Music Man basses are clearly descendants of the Fender lineage. They feel just a little heftier than their Southern California cousins. Most feature active electronics and punchy, quiet, double-coil pickups for less noise and more tonal range. We also like their great-playing necks. The feel is definitely familiar—but still distinctive from other Fender-style basses.
