Custom Gibson A4 Mandolin - 1906

Gibson 1906 (circa) model A4 mandolin with Artist Inlay. This beautiful old mandolin was top of the line in its day. It has a black finish on the top with red(ish) stain on the back and sides. The rosewood fingerboard has flourished inlays and the top has an inlaid pickguard which is notably missing one piece of the outline inlay. On the headstock you will find "The Gibson" and a fleur-de-lis inlaid and a set of Handel tuning machines. On the tailpiece is the original "The Gibson" slide on cover. The Orville Gibson label inside the sound hole has the hand written serial number 5588 and the heal block has the order number 309 (possibly 369?) stamped.

This instrument is in very good condition for its age. There is very little finish wear to be found and only a few dings, which we have tried to make visible in our photos. The fingerboard is in very good condition and the frets show little to no signs of wear. You will also note there is an area where the side has separated from the back near the end pin and another area near the heal of the neck on the treble side where there is a separation.
