Big and deep is one thing. Add clarity and that elusive vintage warmth… meet the Mercalli 5. We pulled it off by using a five-piece neck, lock down bridge, and innovative passive pickups. This earthshaker delivers strong fundamental notes on the low B with sustain and punch you’d expect from basses costing many times as much.

REVEREND MERCALLI 5 FM CUSTOM BASS PICKUPS

Reverend designs their own proprietary custom pickups to achieve the best tonal match with the instrument. Reverend pickups are also specifically designed for each position, for balanced volume and tone when switching between pickups.

THICK BRICK 5 BRIDGE

Warm and thick with strong mids. Output and punch like an active, but more organic sounding. 42 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 8K ohms.

SPLIT BRICK 5 NECK

Strong lows and highs, open mids. Like a vintage P bass pickup but with more beef, yet retains clarity. 43 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 9.5K ohms.

PICKUP PAN CONTROL

This control allows you to blend the two pickups with one knob. Roll in the bridge pickup for more midrange punch, or bring up the neck pickup for more low thump and open highs. Dialing in the perfect tone has never been easier!

REVEREND MERCALLI 5 FM LOCK DOWN BRIDGE

Our bridge features allen bolts that lock each saddle down to the massive base plate. This locks the bridge into one solid unit which enhances clarity and attack, and produces bell-like sustain. This versatile bridge can also be strung string-thru-body or top-load.

HIPSHOT ULTRALIGHT TUNERS

These tuners have a housing made of aircraft grade aluminum that makes them extra-light.  The difference in weight can be as much as 2-3oz less in the headstock, which means a more balanced bass that’s more comfortable to play. And the tone is great! Your bass is more defined and enhanced with the Hipshot Ultralites

FIVE-PIECE NECK

Our bass necks are constructed from five pieces of wood laminated lengthwise. This creates a stronger and more stable neck that’s less prone to warping, twisting, and humps over the life of the instrument. 

KORINA BODY

Korina (aka White Limba) is a medium-light weight wood, highly prized for consistency and tonal qualities. Often found in boutique and vintage instruments, all Reverends feature Korina bodies. A highly resonant wood, Korina is a key factor to producing our lively, responsive instruments that are rich in harmonics.

In 1997, working out of a small East Detroit garage rented from a local bicycle shop, Joe Naylor founded Reverend Guitars. Drawing heavily on an industrial design background, professional luthiery training and years as a guitar repairman, his guitars and basses quickly had people talking. A few years later Ken Haas joined the company as a booth demonstrator and followed his passion for Reverend to become CEO. Today, Joe remains Head of Design and Zack Green (Chief Set-Up Guru since 1999), still signs the headstock back of every guitar that comes through the shop.
