Custom 1973 Fender Precision Bass Vintage Blonde P Bass w/ Gold Anodized Pickguard & Hardshell Case

Up for sale, a 1973 Fender Precision Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Made to more closely resemble a '59 Precision, this bass retains its original gloss natural poly finish, but was oversprayed in the past with a thin coat of blonde nitro lacquer, which still highlights the prominent grain of the ash body beneath the finish. A gold anodized pickguard tops off this unique Fender P Bass, and this bass has enough fundamental thump and low end thickness to satisfy the most discerning players. The purity and simplicity of the Precision design makes for a very versatile tool, and this bass can fill a room and be present while still sitting below the rest of the band in the mix. Pluck softly with your fingers and notes have incredible girth and bloom, or dig in with a heavy pick and hear the bass growl while still holding together very well across the frequency spectrum. The bass weighs in at 10lbs 4oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this vintage Fender Precision Bass features fresh 45-105 roundwound strings and accurate intonation.

The neck profile is a quintessential medium C shape with the original gloss poly finish and even a bit of light figuring in the maple. With a 1 5/8" nut width, this neck plays very comfortably and the profile has shoulders that have just enough roundness to feel substantial. The rosewood fretboard features pearl dot inlays and the original medium jumbo frets are in excellent shape, showing light wear beneath the A and D strings on frets 1-5 and virtually no wear up the neck. The neck is arrow straight with a responsive truss rod and no buzzing or dead spots anywhere on the fretboard. On the headstock, the original block logo is present along with a set of stock chrome Fender tuning machines with clover buttons.

All of the electronics work as they should, with a stock gray bobbin pickup that dates to '73 and CTS pots that date to mid-1973 as well. While the stamp on the neck heel is only partially visible, the crucial legible portion dates to '73 too. The body routes are original and the bass features a stock finger rest, knurled chrome knobs, and original four saddle bridge in addition to the aforementioned reissue gold anodized pickguard. Cosmetically, the bass is remarkably clean with only a few tiny nicks and inconsequential dings on the instrument as a whole. Although difficult to capture in the photos, the milky white nitro lacquer top coat of the finish does let the wide grain of the ash body peek through!
