At this point, we know what to do if we luck into a stash of cool wood- we call Birdsong. Insomnia-fueled browsing of one of those other sell-stuff-on-the-internet sites (“Bobslist”, or something like that) prompted a full-speed morning drive to a cabinet shop in Superior, Wisconsin. We scored a pickup-load of old-growth coastal redwood that spent decades as the bottom of a tank at the old Fitgers brewery in Duluth, MN. Only one option for wood like that- have cool instruments made!

As usual, we let the Birdsong wood gnomes have complete creative control. We think they knocked it out of the park (as usual). In addition to the beer-tank wood (Fermented Redwood? Drunken Redwood?), they tricked out Cortobass #16C-342 with vintage tortoise plates, a maple neck with rosewood board, woodburned barley & hops knobs, and….umm….a “beer infused oil finish”. Please don’t lick the bass.
