The First Hawk is an ideal flute for beginners because it has a sweet voice, an affordable price and its average size makes it easy for people with smaller hands to play. It gives newcomers the opportunity to have fun playing the native flute, while building the skills and confidence to branch out too other larger and deeper toned flutes.

The First Hawk is crafted from Spanish cedar, a softwood with a warm, resonant and full voice, and is sealed with non-toxic oils that give it a beautiful and durable finish. Spanish cedar has naturally occurring dark lines in the wood grain which are often mistaken for cracks, what may look like a check line is actually a natural grain line in the wood. If your flute is crafted from Spanish cedar, please watch this video to help you distinguish between check lines and wood grain.

It is a 6-hole flute but we cover the 3rd hole down from the top of the flute (known as the 6th hole) with a removable leather tie to give you the option of playing it as a 5-hole flute (easier for beginners) or a 6-hole flute.

Because of its range of notes, this flute can also play a relative major diatonic scale in the key of "C".
