Custom MTD 535-24 Marilyn chambered bass! Amazing Redwood burl top! Beautiful, lightweight! MAKE OFFER!

Even among the beauteous MTD's you'll see on Reverb or ebay, this gem stands out!  MTD 535-24 with an eye-popping highly figured redwood burl top. Part of the rare 'Marilyn' series of chambered-body basses. I'm the original owner, bass was played occasionally in church.

The story goes that Mike Tobias obtained the tops for these basses from redwood burl left over after the manufacture of Audi dashboards. Please check the photos because the amazing visual character of the top has to be seen to be appreciated. 

The alder body is slightly thicker than normal for the chambers. The chambering gives a subtle but noticeable effect on the tone, gives the notes a nice 'size' compared to a non-chambered body. The other benefit is weight-- only 8.4 lbs on my digital bath scale. A 5-string that only weighs 8.4 lbs! If you'll search the web for MTD Marilyn there's a lot of good information and insight into what makes the Marilyns so special.

I can't find any dings, rash, or damage to report, but there's an area on the bass side of the neck from the 3rd to about the 7th fret that looks like my thumb has started wearing the finish. It doesn't feel any different than the rest of the neck, which is silky smooth and a joy to the hand. Check the photos.

Great bass, plays like buttah, light, beautiful and sounds amazing with the wood combination, the chambering, and the custom electronics by Bartolini. I've been very careful to take care of this bass, regular treatments with Butcher's wax, lemon oil on the board, etc. and it is always either in my hands or in a gig bag or the case. The high end case features a hygrometer to meter the bass's environment, and itself is essentially new because the few times the bass left the house it was in a heavy duty Levys gig bag.
