Product Description

Pronounced "joom-boosh" this Turkish maker produces traditional instruments like Oud, Saz, Tambur, even Mandolin, but with specialty stainless steel banjo-esque bodies, and remove-able, highly adjustable necks (the action is set by one twist of a big wing screw at the heel of the neck).

Though the body is similar to that of a banjo, Cumbus Saz is actually super light weight - this instrument probably weighs under five pounds. The traditional wooden-bodied Saz tone is quite lovely, but also very quiet. The aluminum-pot Cumbus body on this Saz, however, projects a very clear, loud sound - play the Cumbus Saz in any jam and you will have no problem being heard!

Saz has all the frets you would find in a western 12-tone scale, plus extra Turkish microtones. These Turkish scales have a very unique "flavor" or "color" that are quite beautiful and interesting, once accustomed. Saz can play these Turkish scales, plus any western scale.

It has three courses of two strings, for a total of 6 strings. Saz has a few traditional tunings, the most simple of which is an open A-E-A, which leaves the top course for melodic lines, while the bottom two courses serve mostly as drones.

The gear tuners and neck wood are all very durable and sure to grant many years of playing time to the new lucky owner. The neck appears to be made of good quality rosewood. We have tested and played this instrument, and made the necessary fret adjustments - the instrument comes to you with consistent intonation for the full neck length!

Instrument comes with a cool quilted nylon gig-bag with the Cumbus logo.
