Product Description
Excellent condition, plays and sounds fantastic.
Original case, includes everything shown. Bridge cover is in case.
These basses are prized for their excellent playability and wonderful tone, more mellow than the solidbody Rick bass, yet more full and round. This one is no different. A wonderful instrument, handmade in Santa Ana, California by one of the elite guitar making companies.
This was from the last batch made by Rickenbacker, but is essentially identical to the two runs made in the 60s, save for the superior hum canceling pickups which Rick began using in the early 70s.
Original black case with plush blue lining.
Serial number dates it to 1974.
Frets, neck, pickups, switches, everything - in good shape and proper working order. A little flame in the Maple, on the neck.
Very little evidence of wear, and unlike most examples, no buckle rash on back. In short, one of the nicest examples you'll find.
Please, no lowball offers. I will not respond to them. Also, no trades.
This bass is a complete and utter rarity that Rick CEO John Hall has committed to never reproducing. The entire run of 4005s may be somewhere around 75, maybe a few more. But definitely less than 100.
One user on the Rick Forum opined: "The 4005 is one of (if not the) most beautiful bass guitars ever made, much like their six string Rick counterparts. I think that the remaining Rick bass range is a line-up of ugly brutes. I've been after a 4005 for quite a while now but they are making anything up to 9000 pounds (around $17,000) for a mint one." This bass is listed for much less than the high end shown on the RickResource page.
This bass will ship from Texas, where it has resided in its case for about 20 years. It is a three owner instrument, and I know all the prior owners.
Please feel free to ask any and all questions up front.
